UN population reports predict in the next 40 years most of us will live in 'self-built cities, informal settlements, and slums". Besides the unforeseen needs and challenges of the rapid population change, one dramatic opportunity stands clear: the ability to create ones own environment and effect change.
Considering the developments of the 20th century, allowing people to manage their own lives, be guardians of their own destiny and happiness is a revolutionary concept. But research has already proven its effects, cities that are open to collaboration thrive, and individuals who can actively contribute to their environment are significantly happier than those who don't.
So how do we go about the monstrous, yet exciting, endeavor of developing our own communities, attracting creative and innovative talent, organizing self governance, growing environments that are creative, innovate and sustainable - where we can live, love, raise families and grow old? We start by sharing.
